The officer observed a male being chased by the dog. The dog bit the male and the male was crying for help. Our officer went up to him and tried to get to dog to let go of him and he didn't.

Originally the call was that this dog followed them home before it turned vicious on them and bit them. At the time, the dog had no collar and we don't know who the owner is.

He fired his weapon, striking the dog and causing the dog to release the person.

... it looked at me as it passed, smiling in that crazy-happy way that dogs do. And I started laughing. I mean, how can you not laugh at a dog running on the beach? But I was also kind of crying, too. Laughing and crying simultaneously hurts. It hurts and it's confusing.

And that is per owner not per dog.

We didn't want an unsuspecting police officer to walk up to him in a traffic and get shot and killed. We tried the best that we could, but I guess we did not try hard enough.
