The original request was far from pocket change. And yet, we apparently felt compelled to add significant new spending.

I think I felt compelled in a way because if I hadn't written the part, I never would have been offered the part. There are at least 10 guys who would have been offered the part before me.

I always stand back and look at things, ... I decided how I needed to change our lives to get on through this.

Our original goal was to finish in the top five and we weren't far off. Overall, it was a successful year. The state was a lot more competitive. The top teams were more evenly matched and it took a lot more points to stay in the top ten than it did last year.

It's very controversial and it (the Park Service) put the wrong emphasis on it. I don't think we're satisfied yet.

In the '90s, it felt like it became (all about) people insulting each other. ... Insult. Comeback. Insult. Comeback. That doesn't feel real at all. But I feel like all three of these shows have veered away from that, and there's some sort of deeper goal.
