The players develop a very strong sense of ownership of the team because they have to put their own money and time into the team, unlike schools where crew is a varsity sport. It also has created a fairly strong alumni base.

It requires a lot of energy to race 2,000 meters; learning to pace yourself is very important. You must be able to row your race, no matter what other boats are doing.

This year we will be successful again, and we'll have the opportunity to pick it up another level. We've typically been at or near the top of our conference and recently we've been competing more nationally. We have all the pieces.

There's just a huge amount of money sloshing around looking for a place to go.

What becomes emblematic is that they raise so much money nobody wants to run against them. It becomes cost prohibitive. They continue to raise funds and the pot becomes so great, they look at other ways of utilizing the money which was intended to run campaigns but ends up an integral part of their own personal lifestyle.

It takes a good amount of time and money to establish a home. Eviction can erase all that.
