The public has the right to know why the police took the action they did, and that information is available to the public only if search warrant affidavits and arrest warrant affidavits are public.

We've gotten information in the last several hours that a passing motorist saw our vehicle, our State Police SUV, with its red lights activated following this white pick up truck off the expressway, indicating to us that our trooper was trying to execute a vehicle and traffic stop with that vehicle.

The police have the power to search people's homes, to make arrests, to take blood samples and so forth as long as they have 'probable cause' to suspect that a crime has been committed. That is a fairly low standard.

(Police are) also encouraged to obtain (the witness') confidence right after the selection without giving any information.

Until more information is generated by police, we really can't go any further.
