There was no Democratic leader telling the American people the truth about how the war in Iraq is absorbing so many resources it's making our country more vulnerable and less secure.

When I was in office, the morning TV shows were dedicated to public policy. You'd turn on the 'Today' show and they'd have serious discussions of health-care problems and Cold War issues, and they'd have people from Congress on. Now it's all about lifestyle. It's cooking, it's dressing, it's celebrity-oriented, it's promotion of other television programs on the network, it's sensationalism. I think the heirs of William Randolph Hearst have taken over the whole industry.

Fame is an illusive thing / here today, gone tomorrow. The fickle, shallow mob raises its heroes to the pinnacle of approval today and hurls them into oblivion tomorrow at the slightest whim; cheers today, hisses tomorrow; utter forgetfulness in a few months.

We are a society tremendously concerned with prestige and certification. A hall of fame conveys that. It says whatever is inside is superior, it's better.
