The Surf Industry has become a private club, and I’ve never been one to join clubs. I just like to surf.

What I really wanted to do was paint surfboards with Paint Pens, but no company would let me. It was so different from what surfboards looked like at that time, they were all scared to try something new.

I made sure my signature was on every board I painted. And that’s when it all changed.

I don’t agonize over my paintings being perfect. I’m not creating masterpieces, I’m creating art to make people smile or make them think.

Artists are paid in different currencies. Not just money, but time, freedom, ability to do what we love.

He loved surfing. He just loved the Hawaiian lifestyle.
