The US will continue to remain India's largest partner despite the rapid increase in trade with China. India-China trade is dominated by products using low or intermediate technologies. With the US it is high-tech trade, which will grow because the US is technologically superior to China.

So the emphasis on employment, emphasis on agriculture, on infrastructure, will generate that.

Growth must come from below. Growth coming from above will see a lot of fluctuations,

People will trade if they want to trade.

This deal will hurt us, the Indians, the most. We are peasants and this trade deal will flood Ecuador with cheap farm products from the United States.

It's true that many of us have been concerned that foreigners will grow tired of financing these ever larger trade deficits, and so far there hasn't been much sign of that. But there are plenty of reasons to be concerned. We know (the trade deficit) means we're borrowing against the future, and that our children will have lower standards of living than they would otherwise. And just because a 'hard landing' hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't.
