The whole property tax discussion is about reform ... moving the property tax system to an income tax based system. We're talking about the wrong issues.

Individual income tax is due on April 15, filing and payment. The real property tax deadline is February 20 for the first installment, and April 20 for the second installment. We're going to accept the 2005, and within the 2005 the Earned Income Tax Credit will be allowed in the tax return.

North Kingstown has been very aggressive in promoting property tax reform. We're looking to the General Assembly for leadership in pushing this process forward.

In some ways, the sales tax is fairer. A retired person living on a fixed salary, their property tax appreciates while they don't spend much on sales tax.

It demonstrates the politically elite will fight to obstruct reform in order to protect their backroom property tax deals.

We just can't do this anymore without getting some assistance from the property tax.
