There are large pockets of alumni and friends in these six cities. We're trying to be a lot more visible than we have in the past. We're trying to reach out to a broader audience and engage them long term.

It is too large, it is too in-your-face, it is too visible.

This is not a trend we are seeing at Hopkins, in fact our alumni participation has actually increased over the past three years.

We have several major building projects that remain partially funded as well as [the need to] continue.

Forget the damned motor car and build the cities for lovers and friends.

Union issues by and large are payroll issues, which are very visible in the state budget and in turn make it easier to demonize. But it's a very one-sided argument to attack labor as if there is no such thing as corporate contributions.
