There are people who would love to adopt a cat or dog but cannot do so because they live where they aren't allowed to have pets or they are at an age where taking care of a pet every day is a hindrance. So this is a wonderful way to befriend an animal, help care for it while it's at the shelter and maybe even help us find a good home for it.

Operating an animal shelter takes a lot of money, and a majority of people cannot afford a large donation. So the Buddy program, at a small cost, gives everyone a chance to help out.

Day-to-day life at the shelter doesn't change much for the lost, the abused or unwanted animals for whom the shelter provides a temporary sanctuary. The torment some of these animals have endured is shocking. Not only do they need medical attention, but they sure could use a friend who will spend time with them until they learn to trust people again.

How do you know love is gone? If you said that you would be there at seven and you get there by nine, and he or she has not called the police - it's gone.

What do you see the young people doing out here? They carry rock and dig ditches.
