There is no question that the People's Republic of China and the People's Liberation Army are intent on acquiring U.S. military technology.

In 1949, Mao Tse-tung's Communists established the People's Republic of China, and the following year, his People's Liberation Army invaded central Tibet.

The desire for freedom in China is as strong as ever before. The 1989 effort almost succeeded. The fact that it failed in 1989, the fact that the leaders - over 1,000 of them - were executed does not mean that one-fifth of the world's population wishes to be held under the thumb of communism forever.

like many other countries, China seeks to acquire our sensitive information and technology. We have a solemn obligation to protect such national security information, and we have to do more to do it.

To the extent that China succeeds in building its capital markets, it will increase the size of the Chinese economy and the world economy as well.

I can point to no other country that has stolen so much from the United States and then used that information to build weapons pointed at us.
