These immigrants are heroes. They transmit in their look the fear but also the happiness of having reached paradise.

They know how dangerous the sea is. They know about the deaths of other immigrants, and despite that, they still want to come. It shows how desperate they are.

You get personally involved. It's a human drama, a catastrophe, seeing how these poor, desperate men have assumed a tremendous risk to seek a better life.

Paradise will be a kind of library

But we should search for the strange and surprising in the world, not within ourselves! To search within, to think so long and hard about our own selves, would only make us unhappy. This is what had happened to the characters in my story: for this reason heroes could never tolerate being themselves, for this reason they always wanted to be someone else.

I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.
