I tried to stay on top of it. He was a challenge there. He's always been very smart -- not because of hard work, because he didn't exhibit a lot of that in the classroom. He was just smart. He never had to study.

You would not be able to find one person in this family that didn't think that they could beat anybody else [in the family] at any given time.

For a kid to see a friend [Collins] experience something like that, when you hear the same term, you think the same thing will happen to you. So it did him a world of good to get a chance to come home and see I was doing okay. I wasn't 100 percent myself, but it did him a world of good to know I wasn't laying up somewhere dying.

He has good days and bad days. Sometimes he gets insecure about it because I have days when I don't feel well and he senses that.
