This kind of behavior can't happen in America in the 21st century. But this is the kind of disturbing and shocking conduct that was common in Jefferson County.

Disarming behavior, where you have two sides involved in a conflict that everybody has stereotypes of the evil other side that is convinced that they would never ever do something reasonable. If a leader on one of those sides were to defy those stereotypes then it would change everything.

Recently, there's been a trend in America that I find very disturbing . . . rewarding immoral and illegal behavior. . . . For example, we now give free needles to junkies, which seems to me to be only a step away from giving condoms to rapists.

You can never say "no, that's impossible" when it comes to human behavior or human relationships.

This jury gave an award of damages that sent a message loud and clear to all sheriffs in this state and to all law enforcement that you cannot trample on the Fourth Amendment in the state of Florida. And if you do, there is going to be a price to pay.

We wanted somebody to really look at this incident, and it's clear that's what they are doing.
