Today we try to identify a gene and then study its properties.

Biology will relate every human gene to the genes of other animals and bacteria, to this great chain of being.

What I have come to understand from our study is that there is a double problem.

The implications are that we'll be able to identify families that carry this gene, to be able to provide counseling to them and, ultimately, we'll hopefully be able to identify them very early if they develop prostate cancer.

I think it would be not very efficient and heartbreaking, maybe, to identify a child [with the gene gap] and then not have a policy set in place to do the early intervention.

We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,
