Today's events are a tragedy and our prayers are with everyone at this time,

We have two families that have intersected in time and the tragedy is horrendous and there's nothing we can do about it. It's just very, very sad.

The events of 25 years ago constituted a terrible tragedy, ... And I believe everyone is determined that the lessons of that day are never forgotten.

We decided the time was not right five years ago. Today we see a different scenario. We have a strong United and a vibrant US Air. We are a company in need a strategic network on the East Coast. US Air clearly fills that void.

On the human imagination events produce the effects of time. Thus, he who has travelled far and seen much is apt to fancy that he has lived long; and the history that most abounds in important incidents soonest assumes the aspect of antiquity.

It's hard to see any silver lining in this type of tragedy. But I think the fact that our warning system went into effect a full 10 hours before this tornado set down -- and that so many thousands of citizens heeded those warnings -- is good. Thank God that took place or our death toll could have been quadrupled.
