Until both trade superpowers get serious about their promises to make this a development round, deadlines will come and go and a deal that helps the poor will remain elusive.

The intransigence and double standards from certain Member States is breathtaking. France, Italy and others are urging the EU to adopt a strong defensive position in the agricultural talks, while forcing many developing countries to open their industrial and services markets. The split shows that key Members States in Europe had no intention in negotiating a Development Round. It was all about their own gains.

We will continue to mobilize and radicalize the protests in favor of life and against the free-trade agreement. There will be neither dialogue nor contact with the government.

I think we are getting stronger. We've opened the debate on these (free-trade) subjects, and the indigenous movement is showing its power again.

Our trade contacts indicate Reynolds American has already developed a product and will enter the market with Camel, possibly in conjunction with the Daytona 500 in mid-February.

I see no need for a Royal Commission [on trade unions] which will take minutes and waste years.
