Use every form of light you can. That will make the room a lot larger.

Definitely use mirrors. Do one from the floor to the ceiling if you can.

You're better off not having too many tables. If everyone can reach the cocktail table, it's all you need.

Take drapery all the way up into the ceiling. That's another way to draw the eye up.
