Victims' assistance wanted to give me $10,000 to go talk to a shrink or psychiatrist about it, ... But I got to thinking about it and realized I got my therapy right here.

It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff. There was this great big huge body of music, the blues, and this great big potential audience in the United States for this non-white music. The Butterfield Band was there to deliver it. People will accept something from somebody who looks more like them. It's a sad but true fact. We weren't playing it as well as our idols, Muddy [Waters] and Wolf.

I'm probably the only guy in the world who's played with Lightning Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Hendrix, Duane Allman, B.B. King.

We are in a hurry; we should all be in a hurry to rush assistance to victims. They should not be allowed to go through yet another traumatic experience.

We don't have a place for victims to go and speak and talk to each other. I've belonged to victims' groups before, and sometimes they're wonderful and sometimes they're not.
