Wax was a one in a lifetime dog and I don't know if I'll ever see one like him again. His retirement leaves a big hole in the kennel and some big shoes to fill.

I look around the kennel and I don't see any Lewis and Waxes. With Wax we knew we had a shot every single time he went to the box.

Wax was a very fast greyhound ... ungodly fast. To the first turn he could be beat, but he'd come after you from there. He'd spot dogs five, six, eight lengths and catch them. He'd zero in on them and then blow past them.

I could put five dogs together and not match him. Wax was the total package.

After the second race of his career, I knew I had the ultimate greyhound. Wax broke last in Grade D, rushed up to fourth around the first turn and then came flying home to finish just 2 lengths behind the winner.

Alpinism is the whole ball of wax, not just one aspect of climbing. You have to know how to live in the mountains, travel, and blend in the technical skills with speed and efficiency. In rock climbing you might focus on a pitch for only a few moments, while in alpine climbing your focus can go on for months.
