We are convinced a Christian Democratic-led government in Germany and a centre-right coalition in Poland will lead to a clear improvement in German-Polish relations.

We should think very hard whether it makes sense to continue the talks under such circumstances. A grand coalition without Merkel at the top is completely unthinkable.

We should not sit back. We have to strengthen our efforts to explain Europe, and that nationalism has always failed in European history, and has brought many wars.

In Germany, a stable government that you can deal with will form. In the Netherlands, this lasted four months the last time, in Austria a quarter of a year. I promise you we will do it quicker. There is no cause for alarm,

(I will only return to Germany) once the decision-makers are convinced that I am the right man with my abilities. If not I will stay abroad.
