We are now convinced, given some unfortunate changes in our community, this is something we have to do.

We'd have to understand what the community and the city wanted to see there before we made any plans ourselves.

In my opinion, given the circumstances in which police officers are dealing with the public . . . it's absolutely outstanding they do their job in a manner where there are so few complaints.

Donations have been pouring in. People from the school, parents and the community have been supportive. One woman raised more than $600 from a bake sale. I didn't know a bake sale could bring in so much. We have a Web site, but it only reaches so many. But the support has been amazing.
