We deliberately didn't want it to be just wives. We're open to all family members and significant others. We have the mother and step-father of a deputy on our board and we have a husband who's been very active.

We also send cards to acknowledge illnesses, births and deaths in the family. One officer who was out on leave for a while told me how much it meant to him that he got a card from us and that we were thinking of him during that time.

In 2005, we had photos with Santa (at the constable's office). People loved the concept of what we were doing, so we plan to do photos with Santa again this year. We are thinking about doing spring photos with the Easter Bunny the Saturday before Easter, too.

We all want a long life but we all want a long life that's healthy, and sometimes family support can help. When you have families, you want them to have better health than you do, and you want to set a good example for your children.
