We even show how jazz, rock and country are all intertwined and related to each other. The students also learn how the basic music principals of rhythm, harmony and melody work together to make any form of music.

We usually only use 20. But that's enough to keep the students interested, and the Wind Machine is always the first thing that they want to know more about.

Our house composer, Jonathan Richards wrote the script and music, trying to create something that was punchy and fun. And keeping the program at 23 minutes helps hold their attention.

The Rutgers Jazz Ensemble is a very fine group so it was a natural to have the students involved in this. We wanted to have a real mix of musical styles, from vocals to the Hammond B3. And also, for this series, I felt it should be mostly artists from around the area who you might not hear in New York.

While [jazz] students are a first priority, we get a nice mix of students and community members at our shows.

These students are the cream of the crop. We have hundreds apply every year from all over the country. Students can use this for continuing their education in broadcast journalism.
