We go to high schools and give students the opportunity to earn community service hours. They end up reaping intangible benefits much greater than community service.

We felt that we needed to formalize the process for naming schools. The community has an opportunity to be involved. I personally think it has worked extremely well. . . . I hope that future boards will continue to use the same format.

The public schools bring the community together and make it more vibrant. I feel that this is an excellent opportunity to serve the community by serving on the Board of Education.

Not as many people volunteer, but how do you get someone to do something so inherently dangerous for free?

We're looking at diversity within our own community. I feel it exposes students from both schools to a variety of cultures.

For their safety and the safety of the community as a whole we transported the students to their schools so they could be released to their parents.
