We have not developed good policies for allowing corporations to extract the information that they need without invading the privacy of the individual.

Many companies accept publicly available information such as a Social Security number as a means of [partly] authenticating a user. This is a typical policy problem where government, law enforcement and the technology industry need to work together to encourage proper authentication methods.

This is a governmental use of the Internet, but I can imagine corporations having corollary services in their networks,

I.T. firms still must consider that there are threats involving information security and privacy.

The law could simply have required redaction of personal information as a means to protect privacy. Instead they are using privacy as the excuse to keep the facts from public scrutiny, and to prevent innocent drivers from gaining access to evidence that the cameras make mistakes so they can defend themselves in court.

There are some very rigorous standards of privacy with which this information will be treated.
