We have run out of creativity for children and teachers alike in the name of pushing up standards.

I think it is really terrifying that we are narrowing down to a mechanistic assessment of children by how many pass exams... if standards meant improving right across the board, character, originality, interests, then I wouldn't mind so much. But it doesn't. It always boils down to the same thing, how will we pass exams.

The need still exists, ... We still have children coming in. Even if we hired more teachers, we're reaching the point where we don't have anywhere to put them.

I tell the younger teachers, those with children, to stay away — I'm radioactive. If I lose my job, it's no big deal. I'll go out and find another one.

Imagine every morning if the teachers had the children stand up, place their hands over their hearts, and say, 'We are one nation that denies God exists,'

She explored creativity in a lot of ways with the children. She wanted to bring out their innate creativity, not a rubber stamp.
