We have to raise $10 billion per year if we are to ensure that every child has access to education.

A world class economy will need world class education - and that means continuing to reform our schools.

We need quantitative assessments of the success of education. We need certification and qualifications both for teachers and for pupils. It is not a choice between quantity and quality, between access and excellence. Both of these will happen together if people really do believe in the importance of education to change lives.

Do I agree with everything the governor does? No. But break down the things he has accomplished with education, healthcare and economic growth, and in a politically competitive state that has had wide Republican influence during his terms, and no one could argue that he's been out cutting ribbons.

Our goal is to give our faculty an opportunity to keep up with trends in post-secondary education -- be aware of how we can better prepare our students for life after high school.

I am pleased to have been chosen to speak on this important panel. It is crucial that our future education leaders understand the issues facing students in today's society in order to help them achieve success.
