We need some good employment data. That would be the one-two punch we'd need to spur a good rally.

We need an event as a catalyst for a full-fledged rally on the upside,

The Dow [showed] some resolve. I think it [had] to do with a key report on employment that indicates the jobs picture may be firming up.

When you combine all [the sources of data] you get something that has a punch to it.

Some of these CEOs are saying we're getting some visibility, but no one is pounding the table.

When we got to a certain point of weakness there were buyers and that's been one of the characteristics of the market recently ? the re-emergence of the 'buy on dips' crowd. It's a more disciplined crowd but they are certainly nibbling at excessive weakness and that's a good undertone.
