We need to codify our values and build consensus around what we want from a free society and a free Internet. We need to put into law protections for our privacy and our right to speak and assemble.

To be sure sometimes we differ, ... but the point is not that one society values privacy more than the other ... but the application of those values.

We live in a democracy. We have this extraordinary opportunity to use our mind and say what we think, speak as we think. Sometimes what we say is objectionable to other people. But that is part of a free society.

Free speech includes the right to not speak.

The first principle of a free society is an untrammeled flow of words in an open forum.

Freedom of the press is not an end in itself but a means to the end of achieving a free society.
