We need to work through this with the Republican conference first, ... A lot of us have approached leadership and asked them to find a way to have this hearing without jeopardizing Senator Helms' prerogatives and feelings.

If they can work with Republican leadership, that makes it all the more likely that the interest of public education will be heard.
