We should measure welfare's success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added.

Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Why is it inflationary if the people keep their own money, and spend it the way they want to, [but] not inflationary if the government takes it and spends it the way it wants to?

Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us that they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy "accommodation". And they say if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us. . . .
