We still predict that the eastern U.S. will be colder than normal this winter, it's just a matter of time. I recommend everyone take advantage of the next couple of weeks and do everything they need to outside because the cold will come.

Phil the groundhog must be wondering why he bothered hibernating this winter.

It's going to feel a little colder (today) and Friday, but it's still going to be well above normal and it's warming back up for weekend. One of the models shows a chance at some truly cold air moving in by (mid-January). But I wouldn't even bet on that right now.

If winter is colder than expected then prices could rebound quite sharply.

If we knew, we would have been able to do a better job of forecasting. We thought in December the cold would take a break. But we didn't think it would take so long or flip this dramatically.

Is the world coming to an end? No -- at least not today or tomorrow.
