We travel with musicians ranging in age from 18 to 70. When it comes to gospel music, they can do anything.

I grew up in the Baptist Church. But you know, when you work with superstars you are always concerned with stroking their egos. You have to tell them how great they are every day. After a while it gets kind of ridiculous. I wanted to do something with real people, so I went back to the church and the music I grew up with.

We have had a lot of offers from record companies to go into the studio, but they wanted us to cross over. We turned them down. Instead, we are taking the cross with us.

You sing in the black church and you sing from 10 in the morning to 10 at night. And you've got to be in great shape because you're singing and jumping and clapping and carrying on all at the same time.

That's not even counting the drive-in centers that are set up for [the insurance companies].

They just keep coming and coming.
