We want to honor the women who shaped our valley.

Her story was about getting back on her feet and sticking it out.

Women are complicated. We all know that.

I am truly humbled and inspired to be recognized among the incredible women who share this honor, ... I am grateful to REDBOOK for helping us raise awareness about the nature and prevalence of crimes against children. Together, we can prevent the vast majority of these crimes by working together to ensure that every family has the community support it needs and every child has a network of people watching out for them.

As to honor - you know - it's a very fine mediaeval inheritance which women never got hold of. It wasn't theirs.

They are displayed having a twisted sense of honor, 'taking no crap from anyone,' with easy access to women and money. Such displays romanticize organized crime and, as an unintended consequence, serve to perpetuate the phenomenon and create alluring myths about the Mafia.
