We were looking at a deficit when we were working on that budget. The question to the Highway Patrol team that was looking at it was -- how much can you spend between now and May, and the answer was basically $8 million.

What we do want to see is reforms that are going to have a permanent effect on the budget deficit.

I can't say thanks enough to Chief Holmes and all of his staff, the Kansas Highway Patrol, the KBI, and numerous other agencies that worked with us in the past year. I can't thank the public enough for the calls and tips we received.

State Route 160 is not a new problem with the Highway Patrol. It's been our deadliest beat for the last three or four years, at least. This is an attempt on cutting down on the accident-causing violations.
