We're collecting about 100,000 telomere lengths in saliva samples and then looking at how those relate to both the extensive longitudinal clinical records that Kaiser is collecting and the genome sequence variations.

When I discovered the samples on those hip-hop records, it seemed like what I had always been looking for. But the thing with the computers and the samplers that I got fed up with is that I missed the live [performance] part. So I started to learn how to play all the instruments and make some sort of instrumental music that was very groove-oriented.

The goal is to learn more about telomere length and other markers of ageing, how best to measure these markers, how they are related to health and lifestyle, and how people respond to learning their own telomere length results.

Eventually we'll be able to sequence the human genome and replicate how nature did intelligence in a carbon-based system.
