We're a young team and there are only 12 girls on the roster. We're learning on the field and off and we're going to make young mistakes.

I've always been a defensively-minded coach and we aren't going to get any better than we are right now. So now the focus is on scoring runs. As I told the girls, today was a good day for us because we played well. We're attacking each team with the idea that we can win at least one.

This was the first game we really executed defensively. We also had some timely hits late in the game and scored a couple of more runs when we needed it.

Up until that first game today, we were struggling.

We had to go through a lot of ice packs at first when the girls were learning to throw and catch. But I'm already seeing end-of-the-year improvement.

We're going through learning pains. At times, we look good, but we had breakdowns where our girls were positioned.
