We're coming to the realization that we're serving more than we can bring in. We used to have a cushion, but that cushion is no longer there. The faithful donors have remained faithful, but we haven't gotten the response from all the new residents that we need.

We need to get in their grant periods, but those will be after we run out of money.

We've only had one formal complaint in the last six months, and that was from someone who wanted their food basket to be brought out to their car. We were able to remedy that with the person.

I think that being raised the way I was, where everything was so uncompromising, where, you know, we're prepared to fight to the death for the soil that you believed belonged to you - that kind of extreme engagement is very difficult to flush out of your system - or your belief system, anyway.
