We've had floods before, ... but nothing like this where houses sat in water for two, three weeks.

It really screws up the water, ... You have a storm like Ophelia, that just sat out there and spun around for days, and it churned the water up from the surface to the bottom, and all of our water became murky. And murky water isn't conducive to holding baitfish and game fish. It can take as long as three weeks to settle back down and clear up. It's still murky out there.

You don't see any houses any more. I saw only four rooftops that were covered by water; everything else was covered by mud.

Luckily, we are on higher ground, so we'll be one of the houses out of the water first when it recedes. What I can say is that we're the best of the worst.

Our houses are at least 12 feet under water. All you can see on TV are rooftops. And the bridge we came across, the I-10 twin span, is now split.

It was a feeling that I couldn't describe. My wife and I stayed in the shelter for three weeks and she took sick.
