We've seen bobcats. We've seen what I call a mountain lion, down in town. And, last year, we caught 16 copperheads and two rattlesnakes.

I don't go out with the idea of seeing an elk, bear, mountain lion. If I go out and keep my expectations in check I always see something interesting ... It's a huge country. It's just unimaginably rich with what you can see hear, smell and remember if you open yourself up to the adventure.

I've never seen a bruise that lasts all year.

The lion is, however, rarely heard - much more seldom seen.

Durango has a lot of deer and a lot of good mountain lion habitat, so there are mountain lions in the area.
