What is the appropriate behavior for a man or a woman in the midst of this world, where each person is clinging to his piece of debris? What's the proper salutation between people as they pass each other in this flood?

Make a proper investigation first. Proper investigation is good for a well-known person like yourself.

If the man or woman are willing to take a look at their beliefs or their behavior, then they can change.

And again, Subhuti, suppose a woman or a man were to renounce all their belongings as many times as there are grains of sand in the river Ganges ; and suppose that someone else, after taking from this discourse on dharma but one stanza of four lines,

Beauty set up distance between other people and me. It warped their behavior.

It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.
