What we should be trying to do is to encourage people to establish private retirement accounts and help them take pressure off the Social Security system.

I support voluntary personal retirement accounts for Social Security. It should be people's free choice.

Social Security is more than just a retirement program. The biggest misunderstanding is that it's a program for old folks.

I do not believe that the Social Security system is in crisis.

The magnitude for trying to create an administrative system and make it functional for 140 million people (in Social Security) could be done, but it will take years. The federal thrift program is having problems and that's a lot fewer people.

Voters should be assured that I absolutely do not support raising the retirement age for Social Security.
