When I was teaching in the 1960s in Boston, there was a great deal of hope in the air. Martin Luther King Jr. was alive, Malcolm X was alive; great, great leaders were emerging from the southern freedom movement.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my personal heroes.

Make no mistake about it. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a Hero of freedom. He is a Hero of justice and equality. He is Hero of peace. He is a Hero against racism, discrimination, hatred, and oppression. It is a cruel act for someone to hijack Dr. King’s legacy for purposes that run counter to everything King stood for. It is unethical, immoral, and deceptive.

Martin Luther King Jr., recognized bias when he saw it, knew what he was talking about.
