When we lived in Memphis, Jane and I often talked about moving to Knoxville when we retired.

It's very unfair for Barry when there are other guys who could be talked about and ripped -- because I see it, and you guys (the media) see it. I'm not naming names, but you'd have to be blind, you know?

He was erudite, tough — a classic journalist. When he talked about something, you knew he knew the territory.

It's a different thing when I sit down with [Memphis songwriter and longtime collaborator] Keith Sykes or some of my buddies in Nashville. It's more likely that I'll actually make the appointment and I'll have some fun and maybe at the end of the day we'll get a song out of it. But I've never had any discipline whatsoever. I just wait on a song like I was waiting for lightning to strike. And eventually -- usually sometime around 3 in the morning -- I'll have a good idea. By the time the sun comes up, hopefully, I'll have a decent song.

I never really talk about the other goalies. I'll have lots of time when I'm retired to talk about the other goalies.

I'll die before I'm 25, and when I do I'll have lived the way I wanted to.
