When you look at the US, energy and climate policy are really framed in a security of supply context. In Europe, it is framed in an environmental context.

If you look at it from a security of supply perspective, the US will not accept anything which undermines its coal in the power generation sector.

Energy prices in general have been going up, as are concerns about energy security and climate change.

But that's not enough: To maintain energy security, one needs a supply system that provides a buffer against shocks. It needs large, flexible markets. And it's important to acknowledge the fact that the entire energy supply chain needs to be protected.

The hurricanes really gave us a bit of a wake-up call when it came to our energy supply.

People want smart energy policy.
