Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.

I could make a difference.

My hope is that I will take the good from my experiences and extrapolate them further into areas with which I am unfamiliar. I simply do not know exactly what that difference will be in my judging. But I accept there will be some based on my gender and my Latina heritage.

Oh, it makes a difference, I thought. And if it doesn't make a difference you will make it make a difference.

I believe in work. If somebody doesn't create something, however small it may be, he gets sick. An awful lot of people feel that they're treading water -- that if they vanished in smoke, it wouldn't mean anything at all in this world. And that's a despairing and destructive feeling. It'll kill you.

Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.
