Wouldn't it be ironic that the very year the World Potato Congress is bringing all these international visitors, we take famous potatoes off our plates?

Many of the scandals sweeping over Capitol Hill are the product of loose ethics enforcement in Congress. No one is watching because the ethics committees too often act like lap dogs rather than watchdogs.

Pigs are going to start flying. The voice of the taxpayers is finally being heard in Congress.

I had hoped to hear the President tonight tell the Congress and the American people exactly how he plans to tackle some of the important issues facing this country, unfortunately I did not.

The congress also follows the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in 2002, at which the ICLEI and the City of Johannesburg hosted a local government session as a parallel event. We hope to learn a lot from the meeting in Cape Town because we will be able to share knowledge and get support in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.

We are going to march on Sunday to simply say to Congress and to the world that we have got to stop this madness. We've got to save our children.
