Write down all the things you want to attain and why. Then work out what are the costs and the benefits. Then do an action plan.

Identify what the issues are and decide whether you can salvage the relationship. If the answer is no, be assertive and tell it like it is. If you need to break that relationship, subtlety doesn't work. You don't have to be unkind, but just explain that it isn't working for you.
