You don't always need to know your destination when you set out on a journey.

It is because of its emptiness that the cup is useful.

Of course, not all journeys are undertaken for sacred purposes. Some people may undertake journeys for the simplest reason of all: curiousity. They wish to see what there is to see just beyond the next hill, or over the far river, or at the end of the long trail leading towards dawn....

A society that doesn't know any longer how to observe every death with proper rituals, that does not know that death is not the end, but only part of the journey, has lost its way, has had the very heart of its humanity torn out.

Not all journeys seek an end. Some are their own purpose.
